LEVELS EXPLAINED

Fundamentals Improvers Intermediate/Advanced Advanced/Classical
Fundamentals

A fundamentals class is ideal for total beginners or those seeking mainly therapeutic exercise with a lighter challenge level. If working a specific health challenge it is highly advisable that you seek a quick consultation with the teacher before starting a group class.

The fundamentals are something all practitioners should revisit regularly. It is in the precision and quality of movement that the greatest results are achieved. It is a highly uplifting experience to explore the fine details of the method. It is how we discover our weaknesses and limitation and make meaningful change in our anatomy over time. We must work on the fundamentals to improve how we feel in our own bodies and move in our daily lives

Improvers

Improver practitioners are those who are enjoying ongoing Pilates training and therapeutic exercise. They are confident and aware of their own personal challenges that may require some adaptation of class content to suit their needs. Challenge level in this class is moderate and options to increase and decrease difficulty are always available to every client. A variety of small equipment always on offer in this class.

The middle of the road. A game of two halves generally we start with releasing the mind and body through stretches, practice the fundamentals but take it up a notch with old school Pilates, the class will build to feeling like a workout as well as therapeutic. Roll ups are practiced in prep or full versions and we also introduce the series of 5 in here. You’ll come out feeling great and walking tall like you’ve done a decent a sesh

Intermediate/Advanced

Less time spent on movement therapy and more time challenging yourself and exploring the bigger movements. Rollovers and rollover preps are a regular feature here as we start to integrate more of Mr Pilates Classic repertoire. Alternatives are always available to those who may prefer lighter or more challenging option.

This level is getting a wee bit bolder. Although we still work on our limitations and how to overcome them with precision and releases, we are really seeking to push ourselves a bit towards a more flowing and dynamic workout. This is a level for finding those mighty challenges to the anatomy that the classical material offers and dipping your toe into the old man’s repertoire to see how it feels

Advanced/Classical

Experienced practitioners up to intermediate level very welcome in this class and will be offered support to take their training to the next level. A full run through is a regular feature of practice at this level but not every week. If in doubt give the teacher a shout!

Without this there would probably be no Iain Dunn Pilates. Inspirational, intelligent, structured, precise and slightly bonkers in places! It really is Mr Pilates great gift to the world. Featured in ‘Return to Life’ 1945 and the only lesson plan a teacher really needs. Working on the classic mat is as tough as it gets. Featuring all the biggies; the side bends, the jack knives, the corkscrews, it's the rollercoaster workout designed by the man himself. The most important rule is have a great laugh while doing it
